Speak up & stand up
for those who speak up

Michigan Medicine Core Values: Integrity, Teamwork, Caring, Inclusion

Getting Started

Short on time? These are things you can do right now to get started.

Think

  • Patients, staff, and families are safer when we speak up for safety concerns, physical, psychological, and social

  • It is my responsibility to raise a concern

  • It is my responsibility to ensure others feel safe to speak up

Say

  • Thank you.

  • I expect everyone to speak up for safety. I want each of us to commit to using the ARCC tool when speaking up. ARCC stands for:

    • Ask a question

    • Request a change

    • Voice a concern

    • Follow the chain of command

Do

  • Stand up for those who speak up

  • Have a team discussion about the importance of using ARCC

  • Reinforce your intention to listen and respect those who speak up for safety
